How ShareFiles works
How ShareFiles pairs devices with QR codes, opens a real WebRTC DataChannel over local Wi-Fi, encrypts 64 KB chunks and verifies every file with SHA-256.

Every step is written out, and the most common questions are answered.
1. QR pairing
Device A creates a real WebRTC offer and shows it as a QR code. Device B scans it and shows a reply QR. A scans the reply. No signaling server is involved — the QR codes carry the connection details.
2. Real connection
The browsers connect directly over the local network. The app shows CONNECTED only when the RTCDataChannel is actually open.
3. Encrypted, verified chunks
The file is read in 64 KB chunks, each hashed with SHA-256 and encrypted with AES-256-GCM. The sender respects the DataChannel buffer and waits for acknowledgements, so progress, speed and ETA are real measurements.
The receiver decrypts, checks every chunk hash, verifies the final file hash and only then offers SAVE FILE.
