What ShareFiles is
A private file-sharing app that sends real files directly between nearby devices with WebRTC. No account, no server, no upload. Any file type, any size your device can store.
First time setup
Open ShareFiles once while internet is ON and wait for “Ready for offline”. Then install it (⋮ → Install app). After that it opens with internet OFF.
How to pair
Put both devices on the same Wi-Fi router or one phone's hotspot (mobile data can be off). On device A tap Devices → CREATE CONNECTION. On device B tap SCAN QR and scan A's code; B shows a reply QR. A scans the reply. When the DataChannel opens, both show CONNECTED.
Sending
Tap Send → SELECT FILES → SEND → choose the device. The receiver taps ACCEPT. Progress, speed and ETA are measured from real acknowledged bytes.
Encryption & verification
Each link is encrypted with an ephemeral ECDH key, and every file chunk is additionally encrypted end-to-end (AES-256-GCM) to the receiver's device key. Each 64 KB chunk is checked with SHA-256, and the whole file is verified before you can save it. A mismatch shows FILE CORRUPTED and nothing is saved.
Multi-hop
If A is connected to B and B to C, A can send to C through B. B only forwards encrypted bytes and cannot read them. Relaying works while B's app stays open on screen.
Pause, resume, disconnects
Pause/Resume continue from the last confirmed chunk. If the connection drops, pair again while both apps stay open and the transfer resumes where it stopped. If the sending app was closed, send the file again.
Limits (honest)
Browsers cannot scan for nearby devices, use Bluetooth or Wi-Fi Direct, so devices must share a Wi-Fi/hotspot and pair by QR. Some public Wi-Fi blocks device-to-device traffic — use a phone hotspot. A phone may pause the app in the background; keep it on screen during transfers. Relays forward live and do not store files for later.
10 km?
No. WebRTC is a communication protocol, not a radio. Range depends on your Wi-Fi or hotspot (usually tens of metres). Longer distances need more real relay devices in between, each in range of the next.
Privacy
No phone number, email, account, cloud storage or central server. Files never leave the devices taking part in the transfer.
