    MeshLink

    Frequently asked questions

Straight answers, including what MeshLink cannot do.

Does it really work without internet?

Yes, if the phones share a local network (Wi-Fi router or hotspot) and the app was opened once while online. Messages travel over WebRTC inside that network.

    Does it use Bluetooth?

No. Browsers do not allow mesh messaging over Bluetooth. MeshLink only reports whether Web Bluetooth exists in your browser.

Can I reach someone 10 km away?

Not directly. Only if a chain of real phones relays between you and each pair shares a network.

Why do I need to scan two QR codes?

The invite and the reply each carry one phone's connection details. Without a server, that exchange happens by camera.

Do messages arrive if the app is closed?

No. Mobile browsers pause background pages. Messages wait encrypted on relays and arrive when the recipient reconnects.

    Is it free?

Yes. There is no server to pay for.
